Class Descriptions
Our school is half elementary and half special programming for preschoolers with special needs. It is a very busy and stressful environment. This year as a wellness initiative we tried on-site yoga. Lion’s Breath offered flexibility and an affordable rate. The instructor easily accommodated the diverse needs and levels of ability within our class (participants range from 20 to 60+, runners to self-proclaimed couch potatoes). We started with one class a week and it has been so popular that we’ve expanded to 2 classes a week. Almost half our staff is involved. Lion’s Breath has proven to be a better wellness initiative than I could have imagined. We at Hazeldean are very grateful.

The Associations' Work Life Wellness Committee held a one-time lunch- time yoga sampler class with Dawn from Lion's Breath as the instructor. I didn't attend but as a member of the committee I saw the glowing evaluations. The staff “buzz" was so great the committee decided to partly funded an on-site evening class one night a week. Every participant enjoyed Dawn's ability as an instructor to make us feel at ease with our different levels of flexibility and agility. At the same time she encouraged us to push ourselves a little more than we thought possible. Now staff are fully funding the cost and have pushed for a second class each week. Thank you Dawn for helping us believe we can do it no matter how tired we are at the end of the day.
Our Work Life Wellness Committee's mandate is to promote the health, safety, wellness and morale of Association employees and our yoga classes certainly help in this endeavour.
Since 2004, I've not only been a class participant but have been the contact person working with Dawn to set up the classes. If it wasn't for her easy-going manner and pleasant personality I probably would have passed this chore onto another participant by now.
