  21. Does Lion’s Breath offer yoga training programs?
1. What is “Lion’s Breath”?
Lion’s Breath is a yoga pose! Ask your teacher to show you!
2. It’s my first time trying yoga. What is the best type?
This is hard to answer. Ask yourself these questions: what do I want from my yoga practice? Is vigorous and challenging experience or gentle and low-key more my style? Start where you’re comfortable. Then branch out and explore the variety of yoga styles available at Lion’s Breath if you’re so inclined.
3. What should I bring to class?
Bring a mat (or rent one at the studio for $1). Wear comfy clothing that allows for maximum mobility. Spandex often works best, or anything you use for running or other sports. If you’re wearing a loose shirt, it’s a good idea to tuck it in. Bring a bottle of water. A friend. A hand towel if you sweat a lot. Also, feel free to bring your own eye pillow or props, but we have both at the studio for your use.
4. Is flexibility required?
No. Flexibility, or rather lack of it, is the no. 1 reason people are afraid to try yoga. But it’s why they need it the most. It won’t take long before you notice improvements! (Hello, toes!)
5. Do you have any special deals for first time yogis?
The Yoga Fling is great for sampling the different styles of yoga offered at Lion’s Breath. Taking a pre-registered class, if you’re new, is a great way to learn with other beginners at a gradual pace.
6. What is the difference between ashtanga, hatha, iyengar, and so on?
All yoga can be described on a continuum. “Gentle entry” on one end, and “flowing and vigorous” on the other. Each emphasizes different aspects of yoga. Please see class descriptions for details on each style to find one that suits your needs and goals.
7. Do all locations offer Pilates?
Yes, check the schedule for class times
8. Is yoga good for guys?
Yes! Many men have played sports since their youth, and they are strong – but also a little tight. As hockey players, figure skaters and golfers can attest to, yoga is the perfect basis for a strong cross-training program that includes stretching, strengthening, improved range of motion and assists in speedy recovery from injury.
9. Is yoga good for any age? (for example, my 10-year-old daughter or my 80 year old mum).
Not all types of yoga are for all ages, but we have yoga that suits all ages. Peruse class descriptions to see which style of yoga best matches your current fitness levels and motivations for doing yoga.
10. Can I bring my child to a class?
We do not recommend children under the age of 11 to any adult class as they simply require instruction more suited to their age. However…as todays 11 year old is more like our 15…we do allow 11 and olders to be in adult classes with a parent. Please call for more details.
11. What is your policy regarding etiquette?
  • We have a 'do not worry too much about being late' policy. It is stressful to worry and try to make commitments to punctuality. This is counter-productive to the goals of yoga. Please however, when entering late, be mindful that others are settled in. Be like a mouse…
  • Please keep your voice low as you sit in the main waiting areas. Friends are in Savasana.
  • Strong perfumes can irritate other participants… a little less is appreciated.
12. Should I be doing yoga while menstruating?
Yes, you can practice yoga while menstruating. Ancient wisdom advises women in their menses to avoid inversions (upside-down poses) during their first two days.
13. Does Lion’s Breath offer workshops or partner yoga?
We offer regular partner classes as well as Pre-Natal Partner workshops. Please see our workshop pages.
14. How frequently does the class schedule change?
The schedule mainly changes for summer and Christmas as well as Statutory Holidays. We usually run a seven-week pre-registered group of classes and will tweek the drop-in schedule in conjunction with those times if needed.
15. Can I drop into a pre-registered class?
Yes and No...yes if the class has room (first service goes to pre-reg students) and if it is NOT prenatal. Prenatal only allows drop in after you have completed at least one 7 week session. This is for quality of care standards.

Also consider that some classes have small numbers and do not always run every session, so please call first to verify that you are not dropping in to a class that is not running.

Dropping in to a pre-registered class usually costs more than a regular drop in fee however. Be prepared to shore up on a 10 pass. No refunds are allowed, in house credits only please. Unless we cancel a class, then we will refund you.
16. How much do drop in classes cost to a pre-reg class?
Expect to pay more for a drop in to a pre-reg class as you are enjoying the flexibility that others have committed to.
17. Can I use my pass at any location?
All Lion’s Breath passes are usable at any of our locations.
18. If my 10 pass expires with some classes that can still be used up, can I get a pass extension?
You can pay $15 for an extension. The length of the extension can be negotiated with the receptionist. It is best to come in and pay for the extension on, or shortly after, the expiry.
19.I’m registered for a seven-week session (ie. pre-natal, post-natal, discoverer) and I’ve missed a class. Can I attend a make-up class?
You can attend a make-up class at any of our locations. It has to be the same-named class and it has to be made up within the seven-week session.
20. Does Lion’s Breath offer private yoga lessons? What is the cost of these sessions?
We do many types of privates from corporate wellness days, hockey and soccer teams, running groups, entire schools, office personnel, individuals and small groups. Privates range from $75 to $305.
21. Does Lion’s Breath offer yoga training programs?
Our Kshatriya Teacher Training Program is available several times each year and is designed for those wishing to teach and as well those doing it for personal development.
