Fast, Fast, Fast... dump the junk in the trunk.
I have to say that in answering the question "why would you fast?", I have not felt overly irritated despite perhaps not having eaten and real food...masticated and hard objects and heard the lovely crashing, crunching sound in my ears of Miss Vicki's Salt and Vinegar chips in a week. In fact, I have not really felt irritated at all. Just missing crunching.
So why fast? If I told you how much refuse is potentially sitting in your intestinal system...you would literally sh&%t! Not to mention that the system is potentially filled with pounds of foods that cannot be eliminated due to the strange foods (processed) that we now eat...Miss Vicki here I come!!! If I then went into a diatribe about how excess refuse in your system taxes your lymphatic system to the brink, and then makes your whole body work six times harder than it needs to, might you wonder why NOT fast?
Fasting gives the factory a shut down period. People—that system works its ass off for you. Every day! Three times at least, and so much of what we eat has extra add-ins (garbage) that then must be pushed out. Giving it a break is the kindest, most compassionate thing you can do.
Enter the tongue, the real culprit. The tongue is insatiable. It wants to eat, taste, degust, chew, move and dance all day and night. Its appetites drive the intestinal system hard. Enter the emotions, the second biggest culprit. I know I am eating. I know there is no nutritional value in what I am eating. But it is soooooo good and it makes me feel safe, happy, loved and generally less anxious. I am your tongue and your emotional body. I need to be fed to stay calm.
The seven day cleanse that 7 brave souls have embarked on has been a delight. It is a fresh juice cleanse, so we are technically eating. We meditate, juice, do yoga and support each other through this intensely exhilarating process. The best part is in observing my deep seeded relationship to food. Why do I eat? How do I eat? When I eat am I chewing the darn stuff or is the vacuum in charge?
It was/is my first cleanse of this nature. I have had food poisoning several times so I always kind of viewed that as a quasi cleanse. This is much more pleasant and I was generally able to work while engaging this strange fasting thing. Here is the big ‘aha!’ moment: I have so much more time to do other things when I am not thinking, planning, obsessing, consuming, cleaning, shopping, inviting and complaining about FOOD!!!
In a nutshell: my body fat is down from 11% to 9% (preparing emotionally not to binge the missing 2% back onto my carcass); I cleared a shit load of gunk out of my system; I am way more conscious and educated about food and me; I am thinking of changes to keep myself from continuing this obsession with finding more food (squirreling) and finally I did it...with a little help from my friends.
When speaking with a lovely student about cleansing, actually answering the question—why fast? I replied, with all honesty, that if I were to ever encounter a serious illness from cancer to any of the immuno-deficiency diseases, the first line for me would be to fast/cleanse and try to clean out the junk in the trunk. I would then marry this to a powerful meditation process and next thing ya know, I would be levitating!
See you in the fall for the next round of cleansing. In light and open minded growth... Dawn
